The small size does restrict design elements and can require using small "squinting" sized text.

Lighter weight, 20 mil and 12 mil white tags are readily available and can cost less upfront. However, these lighter weight tags are not always the most economical choice. The thicker, 30 mil luggage tag material will stand up to handling abuse better than the thinner 12 mil and 20 mil tags. Hole punching is typically done with a rectangle slot punch, center to the widest or narrowest edge of the card. Through each slot or punch, runs a strap or loop. Aesthetics and budget will be your best guides for determining the best choice. Loops are typically made of a slightly elastic continuous loop of vinyl. Straps are open ended strips of leather, vinyl or other materials that are closed by a fastener or buckle of some sort. Typically, luggage tag loops are less costly than straps. Another fastening option is to use a clip. However, clips tend to pull off much easier than loops or straps. Consider clips only if you cannot have a hole punched in your luggage tags.
