Roll Labels - Design
Custom roll labels are well suited to many different label designs and applications. Custom roll labels can be designed using full color (CMYK) label printing or up to 4 single colors (spot or PMS). Custom roll labels are die-cut or square cut into certain pre-sized label shapes, giving you a wide range of design sizes and shapes. If your design will not fit a standard size, you can opt to have a special die made specific to your design requirements. Your custom roll label design should include these important design elements: are standard roll label sizes available to fit your design and will your design include full color photos or graphics and text using more than 4 spot ink colors - or - will your design use 4 or fewer ink colors.
We suggest that you begin the design process by selecting a standard label size. This approach will establish your design parameters around a label size that will be cost effective and faster to print when you're ready to order. We also suggest that you determine the best printing method at the start of your design process. The printing method choice you make (CMYK process or 1 to 4 PMS or spot colors) will also have an impact on the available sizes, materials, and overall cost of your custom roll labels. Roll Labels - Shapes and Sizes
My1Stop® offers more than 50 standard label sizes for 1 to 4 ink color printing and nearly 40 standard label sizes for full color, CMYK printing. Choose a standard die to reduce printing costs and reduce turnaround time. Opting for a non-standard roll label printing die gives you almost unlimited shape and size options. Please note, special dies will increase your overall order price and will require longer turnaround time.
The size you choose for your roll labels should be determined by these factors:
- What label size best fits your custom roll label design?
- What is the smallest area that your labels must conform to? Pick a size that fits within that area.
You can see the importance of roll label design and roll labels size. As we suggested, choose your roll label size before starting your design. Determine the smallest area you will have available to apply your roll labels and pick your size accordingly. The My1Stop® selection of standard roll label sizes will work well for many label applications. A link to our standard roll label printing sizes follows. As a reminder, different sizes are available depending on the printing method you choose. Links to the My1Stop® standard roll label sizes are provided below.
My1Stop® Standard Roll Label Sizes
If the size you need is not listed above, please consider our butt-cut or square cut label option in the online pricing tool. Square cut roll labels are available in square or a rectangular shape in 1/2” increments without special dies. Selecting a square cut shape will keep your roll label printing costs and turnaround times down. If you require a custom die, we can provide expert help. My1Stop® can help you order a special die and we can and print from almost any size or shape of die. Contact our customer service team for more information about standard shapes or custom dies.

Roll Labels Printing - Materials
We offer more than 20 standard roll label printing materials for 1 to 4 spot color printing. For full color, CMYK printing we have standard materials to choose from. The guide below can help you determine the best material for most custom roll label projects:
Custom Roll Label Material Considerations
- For Extreme Heat or Cold Applications, Consider Vinyl or Poly Material with Laminate & Permanent Adhesive
- For Long Term UV or Direct Sunshine Exposure, Consider Vinyl Material with Laminate
- For Labels that will be Re-Positioned or Re-Applied, Consider Vinyl or Poly Material with Removable or Ultra Removable Adhesive
- For Labels that will be Applied To Plastics, Consider Paper or Poly Material with Permanent Adhesive
- For Labels that need to be Clear or Transparent, Consider Clear Poly Film Material
Laminates are not required for roll label printing. Laminates are a good choice to protect your roll labels from abrasion, damaging heat, cold and UV light sources.
Permanent, removable and ultra removable adhesives are available based on the material you select. Some adhesives are not available with certain materials. My1Stop® also offers static cling as non-adhesive option. The materials available vary based on the printing method you select. The materials links below are separated into the two printing methods. Laminates and varnish - My1Stop® offers laminates or varnish for different duties including resistance to abrasion, resistance to moisture, and resistance to UV light and fading. Foil - Foil colors can be added to full color roll labels. Choose foil to give your roll labels texture and a rich look.
Roll unwind direction choices - Roll unwind direction determines which direction your artwork will be printed on your roll labels - and the direction that your labels will be unwound from their cardboard cores. My1Stop® offers each of the 8 different label unwind positions. Roll unwind is selected using our instant online pricing tool.
