Bottle Labels - Design

Our digital label printing methods provide you with unlimited size and shape design possibilities. Designing for digitally printed bottle labels also enables you to include almost any number of ink colors in your design. Please note, print quality is excellent, but this small quantity program works best for lables without photographs or CMYK requirements. Process color labels are a great option to choose from, with over 50 standard materials and several laminating options. The perfect solution for smaller quantities of water bottle labels or wine bottle labels.

Your bottle label design will be printed using thermal transfer of the colors you select from a ribbon to the label material. This is an economical and quality method for applying individual colors to very small orders of bottle labels. Your bottle label design should take these important design elements into consideration: uses vector-based non-photographic artwork, design the exact size and shape of label to fit your specific bottle dimensions, include unusual shapes or cut outs to add prominence to your bottles, combine all the labels for a bottle or a series of bottle labels onto the same label sheet, do not design in the CMYK color pallet.

Bottle Labels - Shapes and Sizes

Your digitally printed bottle labels can be cut to shape and size that you define without any additional costs. With this design and budget flexibility, you can create bottle labels as unique as your imagination.

You will want to follow some simple, but practical guidelines that apply to water bottle labels as well as they do to wine bottle labels.

Determine your bottle label shape and size using these guidelines in-mind:

  • Will my label design be affected by the contours or surface shape of the bottle?
  • Can I create interest by including unique shapes such as a crest top, a "v" shaped label?
  • Will my bottle require more than one label per bottle?
  • What is the smallest area that my labels will be applied to? Make sure you design your bottle labels to fit the size and shape of that area.

Have the answers to the above questions? Get your design started! Remember that using digital bottle label printing means that your design can include internal cut outs and holes at no additional cost. Design away.

Listed below are the size parameters for digital bottle label printing:

Bottle Label Size Parameters

  • The Smallest Dimension Should Not Exceed 11"
  • The Longest Dimension Is Unlimited

Digital bottle label printing enables you to design and order a label 11 inches wide and 30 feet long. The cost for this size of a label could be prohibitive. As a rule, the smaller the label, the more economical digital bottle label printing becomes.

About bottle label "kitting". Digitally printed bottle labels are cut from a roll of label material. Pricing is based upon how much of the roll of material you use up. There is no charge for cutting the sheets because it's done digitally. Knowing this, you can design your artwork so that your labels fill a complete sheet. As an example, you could include the front, back and neck labels for a bottle on a single label sheet. This keeps the labels together - making application easier and it can reduce your printing costs! For more information about bottle label kitting, please contact customer service.

Available Materials for Digital Bottle Label Printing (non-photo use)

The guidelines below can help determine the right materials for your bottle label project:

Digital Bottle Label Material Guidelines

  • For Extreme Heat or Cold Applications, Consider Poly Material with Laminate & Permanent Adhesive
  • For Long Term UV or Direct Sunshine Exposure, Consider Poly Material with Laminate
  • For Labels That Will Be Applied To Plastics, Consider Thin 2 mil Material with Permanent Adhesive
  • For Labels That Need To Be Clear or Transparent, Consider Clear Static Cling or Film Material

You might be able to cut your costs by opting not to laminate your digitally printed bottle labels. Here's why. Digital bottle labels are printed using a method called "sub-surface" printing. This method can naturally protect your artwork as part of the thermal ink transfer process to the label material. Since the printing method "embeds" the ink, the ink holds up better than traditional label printing methods allow.
